At the first meeting of the Assarmatori Italian Shipowners Association, MSC Executive Chairman Gianluigi Aponte, answering the question of who will be next in the series of mergers and acquisitions in the current wave of consolidation of the container industry, suggested that it would be Hapag-Lloyd and the combined Japanese carrier ONE.
As reported by TASS, Aponte also commented on the increasingly common tendency for carriers and port operators to adopt a development strategy in the field of land transportation and logistics. He said that MSC will develop its land logistics business, but not all around the world, but only where it is “appropriate”.
