Last year, Russia and Turkey transported about 95,000 TEU of export-import and transit containers via the Russian Railways transport network, the press service of the monopoly said. This figure is almost 23% or 18,000 TEU higher than in 2017. At the same time, the total volume of rail freight in the reporting period amounted to 20.2 million tons.

- The growth rate of trade between Russia and Turkey is increasing, and I believe that we, as the railways, have not yet chosen the full potential of our cooperation. It is necessary to maximize it, ”emphasized Oleg Belozerov, Chairman of the Board of Russian Railways, at a meeting with his colleague Ali Iskhan Uygun, Director General of Turkish State Railways.

To increase the flow of goods between the countries of the Russian Federation and Turkey, they agreed to use tariff incentive measures, as well as to develop the infrastructure of the corridor “Baku (Azerbaijan) - Tbilisi (Georgia) - Kars (Turkey)”. This will reduce the time of cargo delivery, increase the attractiveness of the route, and thus attract the necessary volumes of traffic.
