The analytical agency Drewry warns that in the coming year the problem of balancing the market will not lose its urgency, as it is planned to commission 1.2 million TEU of new container tonnage, TASS reports. The supply of 23 largest ULCV class container carriers for HMM, CMA CGM and MSC will give the market 532 thousand TEU of new capacity.

In general, according to Drewry, by 2022, ships with a capacity of more than 18 thousand TEU will have more than 722 thousand TEU, i.e. one third of the total portfolio of orders. 80% of the new tonnage in the ULCV segment is planned for delivery in 2020.

Feeder vessels are the second category that is expected to be upgraded this year. According to Drewry estimates, in 2020 small feeders with a total capacity of 127 thousand TEU and 164 thousand TEU of larger feeders with a capacity of up to 3 thousand TEU will be launched. In the next three years, the market will replenish with almost half a million TEU of new feeder tonnage, which is about 12% of the existing fleet.
