The cargo turnover of the ports of Latvia in January-March 2019 amounted to 17.18 million tons, which exceeds the same period last year by 10.4%.
According to the country's Department of Statistics, the transshipment of bulk cargo in ports increased by 20.3%, to 9.94 million tons. Including coal transshipment reached 5.36 million tons (+ 26.8%), grain - 1.21 million tons (-14.5%), fertilizers - 0.64 million tons (+ 2.3%). Bulk cargo shipment decreased by 6.6% to 3.84 million tons. Oil products handled 3.61 million tons (-6.6%). General cargo of the ports of Latvia handled 3.39 million tons, which exceeds the figure for January-March 2018 by 6.7%. Handling of goods in containers increased by 3.4%, to 1.25 million tons. Container turnover amounted to 123.6 thousand TEU (+ 6.6%).
During the reporting period, cargo handling at the port of Riga reached 8.35 million tons (+ 1.6%), Ventspils - 6.38 million tons (+ 29.9%), Liepaja - 1.89 million tons (-5.3% ).
